JLC is a family venture started by Joy and Les Cornes and daughter Clair James, Mother and daughter both have a background of BHS pony club. We are based in South Staffs and are members of the British Horse Society and Lusitano Breed Society of Great Britain. The proud owners of Lusitano horses which have been bred in Portugal by Jose Coudelaria Ribeirinho Paralta who's stud farms are based in Nisa Portugal. Our aim is to promote the Lusitano horse and bring it forward out of history as the Ancient War Horse and Bull Fighting Horse, to a modern Horse able to adapt to every discipline in the equine world, but without changing it’s originality.
Our very first Lusitano was a Paralta colt called Varal who arrived in England in November 2003. The next year in 2004 we as a family attended our first LBSGB Breed Show at Addington, where Varal won the 2 year old colt class, overall colt champion and went on to win the youngstock championship. In 2005 Varal won the 3 year old colt class, champion colt and also went on to be Youngstock champion for a second year.
Unfortunately Varal had a medical problem which meant he had to be gelded in 2006 as a four year old. Now Varal is successfully competing as a ridden gelding in elementary dressage and showing classes. In 2007 we went back to Paralta for a replacement stud stallion, the replacement Bioco, who at the time was a one year old colt is a half brother to Varal.
ZAROA
Our first Lusitano filly called Zaroa arrived in England from Paralta in 2005. At her first Lusitano Breed Show at Addington she attained 1st place in the yearling purebred filly class, the following year she went on to win the 2 year old class and as a 3 year old was placed third. As a 4 year old in LBSGB Breed Show 2008 Zaroa became champion inhand mare and in 2009 Zaroa was graded at Hartpury by Dr Thomas Nunes sent by the APSL, receiving a mark of 70.5.
ALAGOA
In 2006 we brought Alagoa from Portugal also from Paralta, she being a full sister to Zaroa. In the LBSGB Breed Show 2006 at Addington as a yearling she was awarded second, and then the following year she was placed 1st in the 2 year filly class at the LBSGB Breed Show. In 2009 as a 4 year old mare she was second inhand mare, second ridden mare and 1st novice riding mare at the LBSGB Breed Show. Alagoa was also graded at the LBSGB Show and received a mark of 68.5 under Dr Thomas Nunes.
BIOCO (Champion)
In 2007 we acquired Bioco breed by Paralta as a replacement colt for Varal. His first show was at Cascais in Portugal in June 2007. He arrived in the UK in November 2007. His first LBSGB Breed Show was at Hatpury in 2009, Bioco achieved 1st in the 3 year old colt class and champion colt.
